The Sunday Session
The Sunday Session is currently suspended.

Information about The Sunday Session
Approximately every third Sunday evening, we run The Sunday Session.

This weekend tango session is a chance to meet up, and recap and practise all that you've learned in your weekly sessions in a relaxed environment. The Sunday Session incorporates two elements:

90-minute class for improvers, intermediates and advanced
  • This is primarily a revision class for all Thursday attendees. The Sunday session is your chance to really master what you've learned, and put it into practice on a social dance floor. The class includes:

Revision drawing on the previous three weeks' Thursday material.
We help you remember all the material you’ve learned, recall it easily and confidently, integrate it into your active repertoire, and improvise more freely with it. You also get extra individual help from us in a smaller group setting.

Development and refinement of your tango. We focus on specific elements we've spotted that need work, and look at technical & stylistic details in greater depth than is possible in the weekly class. Once we're confident that the majority have mastered the material, we extend it with further variations. We also offer additional technical exercises, and work on rhythm and/or musicality.

Special focus on dance floor skills. We want our students to raise the level of dancing on social dance floors, inspiring others with beautiful, original and authentic tango, and demonstrating good floorcraft, a wide repertoire, flexibility and consideration towards other dancers. In the Sunday Session we pay particular attention to ‘raising the bar’ for social dancing.

Practica for all ATSE students

The class is followed by a relaxed practica with free tea, homemade scones and cake. All ATSE students are very welcome: new and recent beginners, early and experienced improvers, intermediates and advanced.

We play a great range of authentic tango music, from the Golden Age to electrotango. This is your chance to dance with Jon and Sarah, as well as with your regular partners and other students! You do not need to book for the practica, nor bring a partner.

Please note that we do not currently run 'open' or 'drop-in' classes or practicas. All our sessions are exclusively for regular ATSE students.

When, where and how much?

The Sunday Session takes place approx. every three weeks. Dates are circulated in advance of each term.

The Sunday Session is advance booking/pre-payment, to ensure equal and sufficient numbers of leaders and followers each time, and to help us with catering (tea, homemade scones and cakes!).

You must book and pay by one full week in advance of each session at the very latest.

5.45pm             Doors open for practice
6pm-7.30pm      Improver/intermediate tuition as described above
7.30-9pm          Extended practica with tea, homemade scones and cake

£20pp for the three-hour session: 90 mins small-group tuition; 90 mins practica; complementary tea and homemade bakes.

£10pp for practica & tea only. This option is available only to regular attendees of our weekly classes (Tues or Thurs).
