Take your tango to the next level...
Have you have been dancing and studying tango for several years? Are you looking for intermediate or advanced level tuition, and some fresh challenges?
As an experienced dancer, you are confident on the dancefloor. Yet you might find you have hit a plateau - or that your technique, style or conceptual understandingis lacking or out of date. If you spend more time social dancing than studying, you are likely to have picked up bad habits which affect your ability to lead or follow more advanced or modern movements.
Plus, if you usually dance in the same area or even just in the UK, you're probably missing out on the latest advances in tango on the international scene. Despite your best efforts, your tango can become narrow, stale, unchallenging, and you can lose momentum.
If you are looking for a new challenge, or a fresh perspective, we can help. We teach all styles of contemporary tango, covering salon, milonguero and nuevo; we also teach milonga, and vals is a speciality. We are renowned for the quality of our tuition, innovative teaching methods and the breadth of our dancing and teaching. Our tango is up-to-date, international and authentic. So if you would like to expand and hone your dancing, do join us now.

Join us for an evening of tango, every Thursday

Thursday night is ATSE's tango night for experienced and regular students who enjoy a challenge! Each week we run a full evening of tango tuition and dancing. There is always 1 hr tuition plus 30 mins practice time included in the study group fee (below). Approximately fortnightly, this is followed by a supplementary Tango Plus workshop.
Thursday sessions cater for intermediate & advanced dancers who have studied tango for several years and are committed to continuing to study, update and improve their tango.
Tuition is pitched at intermediate level. It focuses on contemporary salon tango from a nuevo perspective, and is progressive, building week-on-week so that you can develop your skills, repertoire and confidence. We focus on up-to-date technique, style, musicality, improvisational skills and floorcraft.
Especially important for intermediates/advanced is our strong emphasis on developing your understanding of the nuevo conceptual framework, which is crucial to more advanced tango. We also update our material constantly, to reflect advances and changes in tango in the international context.

Is this the right level for me?
The Thursday study group is pitched at intermediate level and is suitable for experienced improvers, intermediates and advanced who attend classes regularly and are committed to developing and improving their tango. Less experienced dancers, or those who are more interested in dancing socially than studying seriously, should attend our weekly Improver class or Beginner, Recent Beginner & Early Improver class.

All our classes are taught from a nuevo perspective, but at intermediate level, this perspective is central, and requires particular skills from our students. It can be quite different from tango classes elsewhere. We also define 'intermediate' and above in a particular way (please see Class Levels).
For these reasons, please note that we always arrange a private lesson with newcomers who wish to join the Thursday study group.
In this private lesson, we'll dance with you, offer friendly and constructive feedback and suggestions about your dancing, and suggest new elements you might want to add to your repertoire. We'll also convey some of the core principles central to our teaching. If you have learned elsewhere for some time, there are likely to be differences in basic technique, approach and style which we will highlight, so that you can make the most of our classes and dancing with our other students. In particular, the lesson will introduce you to the nuevo perspective which forms the basis of our teaching, and which you may not have encountered before.
It's also your chance to meet and dance with us in a relaxed and informal setting, ask any questions, and tackle any concerns you have about your tango. We've been told that new students find this introduction really helpful, encouraging and inspiring.
If you would like to join our group classes, just contact us, and we'll arrange this with you. Don't be nervous or shy; we look forward to hearing from you!
