Welcome to our weekly tango classes
We are the longest-established tango school in Kent. We have been teaching tango together in Canterbury since 2004, and have taught hundreds of people to dance.
We dance and teach all styles of contemporary, authentic tango to students of all levels, from beginner, through improver and intermediate, to advanced. We are renowned for the quality of our tuition, innovative teaching methods and the breadth of our dancing and teaching. To find out more about what to expect in our classes, and our teaching philosophy, click here.
Singles and couples are equally welcome; we rotate partners in all our classes. For most classes, we operate a pre-booking system in order to maintain balanced numbers of leaders and followers. This means you don't waste time in your dance class standing out or waiting for a partner - and you get to dance with everyone!
We look forward to welcoming you to our vibrant tango community.

New beginners are always welcome
Our weekly beginners' classes are focused, structured, friendly and non-intimidating. You need no previous dance experience. Many of our best dancers had never set foot on a dance floor until they tried tango with us. The Beginners class is also ideal for improvers who wish to revise and hone the core principles of tango. For information on our beginners classes, please click here.

Newcomer, but not a beginner?
If you have done some tango before, or are currently learning elsewhere, please contact us to find out more about joining our other weekly classes for more experienced dancers: improvers and intermediate & advanced.
We offer tuition in all styles of authentic tango, covering salon, milonguero and nuevo; we also teach milonga, and vals is a speciality. So if you would like to expand and hone your dancing, please browse our site to find out more about what we offer - see especially under Weekly classes and Special classes - and then get in touch. We'd love to hear from you.
Intermediate or advanced level?
We define 'intermediate' and 'advanced' in terms of your level of conceptual understanding, technical proficiency, ability to learn and commitment to improvement (see Class Levels). The number of years you have spent social dancing is usually irrelevant. A number of years spent regularly attending high-quality, authentic tango classes is far more important.
All our classes are taught from a nuevo perspective, but from intermediate level, this perspective is central, and requires particular skills from our students. It can be quite different from tango classes elsewhere.
To maintain the standard and approach of our intermediate/advanced study groups, please note that we always arrange a private lesson with newcomers who wish to join our classes above improver level, before you attend your first group class. This would include the Thursday intermediate study group (but not the Tuesday classes).
In this private lesson, we'll dance with you, offer friendly and constructive feedback about your dancing, and suggest new elements you might want to add to your repertoire. We'll also convey some of the core principles central to our teaching. If you have learned elsewhere for some time, there are likely to be differences in basic technique, approach and style which we would need to highlight, so that you can make the most of our classes and dancing with our other students. In particular, the lesson will introduce you to the nuevo perspective which forms the basis of our teaching, and which you may not have encountered before.
It's also your chance to meet and dance with us in a relaxed and informal setting, ask any questions, and tackle any concerns you have about your tango. We've been told that new students find this introduction really helpful, encouraging and inspiring.
If you would like to join our group classes, just contact us, and we'll arrange this with you. Don't be nervous or shy; we look forward to hearing from you!
