What is a small-group workshop? Key features
The format of the workshop varies according to the attendees. However, there are some common features:
We usually define a 'small group' as a minimum of six people, and a maximum of twelve. However, for the moment we are keeping these small groups a little more exclusive, so that attendees get extra individual attention. So at present, our small-group workshops are 6-8 people only. All small groups are made up of equal numbers of leaders and followers, so no-one need wait for a partner.
We have not increased our small-group prices for five years, despite rising venue costs and other costs. The price for a small-group workshop/lesson is £30 per person per hour. This is half the cost of a private lesson for an individual, in a hall/studio. It's an economical way to get personal attention and tuition and meet other dancers.
Each workshop is typically two hours long (sometimes just 90 mins for beginners), and they are usually organised into themed series, so that you book for 6-8 hours of tango tuition, spread across 3-4 dates.

Improvers and intermediates - workshops running now!
Our 'Saturday Group' is a small, friendly group of keen and experienced tango dancers. We meet approximately every fortnight, on Saturday mornings, usually 11.30am to 1.30pm.
We currently have a couple of spaces available in the Saturday Group, for single followers, single leaders or a couple. Would you like to join us from September? This is a great opportunity to expand and develop your tango knowledge and repertoire!
Each workshop is two hours long and focuses on specific kinds of steps, movements or key principles, such as (for example) barridas, ganchos, boleos, sacadas, rhythm, footwork, 'next natural step', moving between styles, close embrace or the flexible embrace. We plan and book two or three workshops as a series, so that attendees get 4-6 hours of intensive coverage of particular themes. As always, we cover salon, milonguero and nuevo styles. If you don't know what these are, don't worry - just come along and enjoy finding out!
You can see some photos of current workshops on our Gallery page.

Beginners and Recent Beginners: superboost your tango with us!
We are now looking to put together small-group workshops for tango beginners and recent beginners (click here for info on levels). These workshops will be ideal for absolute beginners, for those looking to 'restart' tango after a break, and those who are learning privately with us and are in the early stages of their tango journey.
For your initial taste of tango, we'll plan and book three workshops in a series, probably 90 mins per workshop.
We will structure these workshops flexibily, as best suits the attendees’ experiences, needs and wishes, so that you can progress surely and confidently.
If you are interested in joining us, please contact us and we'll be sure to let you know the first available dates! As soon as we have a balanced group (equal numbers of leaders & followers) of 6-8, we will get in touch with you to arrange the first sessions!

Existing small groups ('Bring your own group')
Alongside our ATSE, established groups above, we offer private tango tuition to pre-existing small groups. Some of these are composed of ATSE or other tango students who wish to explore tango in greater depth or focus on a particular specialism such as tango nuevo, tango milonguero or vals.
Other small groups are 'guest' groups, usually absolute beginners from outside ATSE, who want to do something new with their friends, or who are celebrating a special event together. We also teach small groups of friends who dance other social dances (ballroom, salsa or folk dancing, for example) and fancy trying something new.
