Improver and intermediate workshops: 'The Saturday group'
'Study tango regularly with us in our small-group (private) tango workshops. This format offers lots of individual attention and intensive tuition (at half the cost of a private lesson), as well as a chance to dance with a small number of other partners, in a friendly and encouraging atmosphere.
UPDATE: Join us in January 2025!
We have a couple of spaces in this well-established and enthusiastic Improver & Intermediate Saturday group, for individuals or couples. In particular, we are looking for single followers or couples (we have a small surplus of leaders at the moment). Would you like to join us from January? This is a great opportunity to expand and develop your tango knowledge and repertoire! Please read on for more details and then contact us.

What is 'The Saturday Group'?
Our 'Saturday Group' is a small, friendly group of keen, improver- & intermediate-level dancers who have studied tango for several years and are committed to continuing to study, update and improve their tango. Some of the present group have been learning with us for over a decade, others joined only recently.
We meet approximately every fortnight, on Saturday mornings, for two hours - usually 11.30am to 1.30pm.
Tuition is pitched at intermediate level (see Class Levels). It focuses on contemporary salon tango from a nuevo perspective, and is progressive, building week-on-week so that you can develop your skills, repertoire and confidence. We focus on up-to-date technique, style, musicality, improvisational skills and floorcraft.
Especially important for more experienced tangueros is our strong emphasis on developing your understanding of the nuevo conceptual framework, which is crucial to more advanced tango. We also update our material constantly, to reflect advances and changes in tango in the international context (and to share with you exciting new movements and figures!).
The Saturday Group workshops would also suit some advanced dancers; please click here for more info.

What kind of things can I expect to learn in these workshops?
Each workshop focuses on specific kinds of steps, movements or key principles, such as (for example) barridas, ganchos, boleos, sacadas, rhythm, footwork, 'next natural step', moving between styles, close embrace or the flexible embrace.
We plan and book several workshops as a series, so that attendees get extended, intensive coverage of particular themes.
As always, we cover salon, milonguero and nuevo styles. If you don't know what these are, don't worry - just come along and enjoy finding out!
You can see some photos of current workshops on our Gallery page.

Would you like to join us? Come and meet us first
All our tango classes are taught from a nuevo perspective, but at intermediate level, this perspective is central, and this can be quite different from what you might encounter in tango classes elsewhere.
For these reasons, we always arrange a private lesson with newcomers who wish to join the Saturday group.
This private lesson is a chance for you to meet and dance with us in a relaxed and informal setting, ask any questions, tackle any concerns you have about your tango and let us know any particular techniques, movements or concepts you're particularly keen to learn.
We'll dance with you and offer friendly and constructive feedback and suggestions, possibly suggesting new elements you might want to add to your repertoire. We'll also convey some of the core principles central to our teaching. If you have learned elsewhere for some time, there are likely to be some differences in basic technique, approach and style which we will highlight, so that you can make the most of our classes and dancing with our other students. In particular, the lesson will introduce you to the nuevo perspective which forms the basis of our teaching, and which you may not have encountered before.
We've been told that new students find this introduction really helpful, encouraging and inspiring, and that it helps them feel confident and excited about learning more tango with us!
If you would like to join our group classes, just contact us, and we'll arrange this with you. Don't be nervous or shy; we're always pleased to meet new tangueros and we look forward to hearing from you.

Small-group workshops: general key features
The format of the workshop varies according to the attendees. However, there are some common features:
We usually define a 'small group' as a minimum of six people, and a maximum of twelve. The average number is 6-8 people, so that each attendee gets plenty of individual attention. All small groups are made up of equal numbers of leaders and followers, so no-one need wait for a partner.
We have not increased our small-group prices for five years, despite rising venue costs and other costs. The price for a small-group workshop/lesson is £30 per person per hour. This is half the cost of a private lesson for an individual, in a hall/studio. It's an economical way to get personal attention and tuition and meet other dancers.
Each workshop is typically two hours long (sometimes 90 mins for beginners), and they are usually organised into themed series, so that you book in advance for several dates.
