Regular classes & practicas

There are two weekly classes in Rochester, at two levels (beginners & recent beginners). Many of our Rochester students also come along to additional classes and practicas in Canterbury: for details of these please click here.

In particular, Rochester students find it helpful to attend the fortnightly pre-practica class and practica, on Sundays, in Canterbury. The pre-practica classes are usually open to all levels and are themed; the themes are announced in our classes and on the page Specialist Classes for Regulars.

We envisage that the new 'Technique & Style' class on Wednesday evenings in Canterbury might also be of interest to our regular Rochester students; we've scheduled it later in the evening to make it more feasible for you to come along.

Details of the classes held specifically in Rochester are given in the table below. Please take note of the information about class levels given underneath the table before turning up to a session.

In addition to all these regular classes, there are many other ongoing special classes, workshops, courses, guest teachers and social events, mostly held in our main centre in Canterbury. Rochester students are always welcome to attend. Details of these are published under 'News & Special Events' (from the homepage), so do take a look!

Note about class levels

In Rochester, we currently run classes at two levels: beginners, and recent beginners. As students in Rochester reach improver level, they are invited to join the Canterbury improver class if they would like to do so. When we have sufficient numbers of improver-level dancers in the Rochester area, we will look to establish an improver group there.

We work hard to maintain the correct standard in each class, and we will advise you when it is appropriate for you to move up from one level into the next. Of course, you are welcome to attend the beginners class at any time: no need to book, just turn up.

For guidance about what the levels mean, and what we cover at each level, please visit the page Class Levels. This page will also answer any questions or worries you may have relating to class levels, your own standard, and your progression. Please note that the levels in Argentine tango do not usually correspond to those used in other dances.

Attending extra classes

You are very welcome to attend ALL classes at or below your level, in as many venues as you like. Our best dancers tend to come to at least 2, 3 or even more classes per week (which is how they got so good!). Attending extra classes at a level that is officially 'lower' than your own is a guaranteed way to accelerate your progress. We are always amending and updating our material, so attending a lower-level class will show you some of the latest moves and technique, as well as remind you of some fundamentals you may have forgotten.

We have a special discounted price to encourage this: if you attend more than one weeknight class a week, the price per class drops to £6, irrespective of how many you attend or what price the class was to start with. This special price deal for those attending multiple classes in one week will remain the same even when the price of individual classes rises (by £1 per class) from October 6th 2008 ie. it'll still be only £6 per class if you take two or more classes in a week.
